Martin Family Undergraduate Research Assistantship

The Martin Family Undergraduate Research Assistantship is a semester-long student aide position hosted by the Center for Louisiana Studies. During the assistantship semester, students pursue research focused on the culture and history of the Acadiana region, preferably the early colonial history and culture of Acadians, Africans, Native Americans, and Free People of Color.

At the end of the semester, students will present the results of their research at the UL Student Center for Research, Creativity, & Scholarship (SCRCS). The assistant will be mentored by Center for Louisiana Studies staff, as well as a faculty sponsor. Students may be majors of any department, though special consideration will be given to students with a track record of successful coursework in history, archeology, folklore, anthropology, geography, traditional music, or French language studies. Special consideration will be given to research projects that are interdisciplinary in nature. Special consideration will be given to projects that incorporate a cartographic element. Recipients who show satisfactory progress in a given fall semester may be allowed to continue the fellowship for a second semester.
