About the Center

The Center for Louisiana Studies is dedicated to researching, publicizing, promoting, and preserving Louisiana’s cultures and history. Since 1973, the Center has worked not only to preserve the state’s rich heritage, but also to make it accessible to scholars, students, and the general public.

The Center includes three divisions: UL Press, Archives/Research, and Programs.

The Center for Louisiana Studies is headquartered at the historic J. Arthur Roy House, which also houses the UL Press Bookshop, a treasure trove of notable works on Louisiana's history, literature, and folklore.

The Roy House is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and is located at 1204 Johnston Street, Lafayette, Louisiana.
