A page of a letter from Dr. Quirk to Dr. Hawkins. Quirk wrote it in response to the aftermath of a weather event that broke the levies in his area. Quirk informs Hawkins of the damage the flooding caused and the impact this had on his ranch.

The first page of a letter from Dr. Quirk to Dr. Hakwins. In it, Quirk expresses his frustration that he has not received the lumber he ordered weeks ago, and he asks Hawkins to send word to a person named Chappelle to get the balance for the lumber ordered.

The second page of H-002. On this page, Quirk continues to write about his frustration with how long it is taking to get the lumber he ordered. He needs the lumber to build a new silo(?) to store his corn crop, which has been flourishing. Quirk also laments that his cotton crop is the poorest it has ever been.

The third page of H-002. On this page, Quirk tells Hawkins about how he and his family have been doing. Quirk laments that he has not had a break in a while due to the amount of sick people in his area. He also writes about his daughter(?), Belle, who has been growing well and taking piano lessons.

Another letter from Dr. Quirk to Dr. Hawkins. It is related to the situation described in H-002. Quirk continues to vent to Hawkins about his trouble with getting the lumber he ordered from Chappelle. Quirk writes that he had the carpenter hired for the project set up the frame of the building, and now is waiting for the remainder of the lumber.

The second page of H-005. Quirk asks Hawkins to write him as soon as Hawkins hears word from Chappelle(?). Moreover, he asks for Hawkins to get back to him about an order he wishes to settle once obtaining the lumber. Quirk then changes the subject to tell Hawkins about a fight he got into with a fellow doctor.

The first page of a letter from Dr. Quirk to Dr. Hawkins. Quirk writes about the finalization of the purchase of a new press(?) and about how Hawkins needed to send a man to see how the press operated so that it will be easier to put it together.

The second page of H-007. On this page, Quirk writes about how he asked the seller's neighbors about the quality of the press, and they said it was in good shape. At the bottom of the page, Quirk writes about how Belle and his sister have returned from a trip to Washington. He ends the letter by extending an invitation to Hawkins and his family to visit him when the press arrives.

The first page of another letter from Dr. Quirk to Dr. Hawkins. Quirk writes about the threat of flooding in his area due to heavy rainfall brought by a large storm. He writes about his plan to move his cattle and horses to a patch of land that will, hopefully, keep them safe.

The second page of H-009. On this page, Quirk expresses his fear that his efforts to protect his animals and land will not be enough because people have predicted that the flood will be four feet higher than a previous flood in 1882.

On this page, Quirk writes about how the rain has delayed plowing and planting, but he also notes that his livestock are doing fine, informing Hawkins that he recently acquired "7 beautiful little mules." Quirk also comments that he and his family wanted to visit Hawkins, but the rain made the roads too muddy to travel.

The third page of H-014. On this page, Quirk writes about his activities, talking about a large meeting that went well and that he saw a colleague before he left. Quirk then gives Hawkins a brief update about the welfare of his family.

Another letter between Dr. Quirk and Dr. Hawkins. Quirk begins the letter stating that there should be a letter from W.D. Haas enclosed in the envelope. He then writes in response to Hawkins's previous letter, which seems to have been about someone either buying to coming into some land for lumber production.

A page from a letter between Dr. Quirk and Dr. Hawkins. Quirk writes about how a mutual acquaintance, Dr. J.S. Branch, told him that another doctor, Dr. J.E.H. This doctor had a place near Lake Charles where he and a man named Yancy got nursery stock delivered to Oakdale, and they would plant it.

The first page of a letter from Dr. Quirk's daughter, Belle, to her uncle, referred to as "Nunk." On this page, she greets her uncle and jokes that he probably did not expect a letter until Christmas. She then writes about how she found a receipt that her uncle was asking for. She says that she gave it and some letters to her papa to send back to her uncle.

The second page of H-022. On this page, Belle writes about a trip she and her parents took to New Orleans for a few days. While there, as her parents were away on business, Belle went to multiple plays that starred the actress, Julia Marlow. These plays included "Hamlet" and "Romeo and Juliet." She then writes about attending an event at the city park to see Miss Moisant and her monoplane.

The third page of H-022. On this page, Belle continues to write about seeing Miss Moisant and her monoplane before changing the subject. Her uncle's family recently welcomed a baby girl into the world, so Belle asks about the baby's name. Belle then shifts the subject again to mention that Mr. Haas came to visit, but she just missed him. However, she then ran into him later when horseback riding with her friends.

The fourth page of H-022. On this page, Belle continues her anecdote about encountering Mr. Haas while on a horseback ride. She then writes about how the yard man has returned and that she needs to talk to him about some flowers she's trying to plant in front of her home.

A letter from Mr. Adam Rozas and Mr. D. Guillory to the St. Landry Parish Police Jury. Rozas and Guillory wrote the letter to certify that widow Gabriel Fontenot is unable to take care of herself and should be placed on the indigent list. There is a note at the bottom of the page from Dr. W. H. Ray, concurring with the above statement.

A letter from Dr. W.H. Ray to St. Landry Parish to appoint Marius MaGee and Metradot(?) Billadeau as "small-pox guards" from November 23rd, 1899 to December 9th, 1899. There is a note at the bottom of the page from St. Landry Parish, approving the appointment and outlining their pay of $3.00 a day.

A letter from citizens of Melville, Louisiana to the St. Landry Parish Police Jury. They write because they believe Adam Anderson, an old man who can no longer make a living, should be placed on the indigent list.

A typed letter from Dr. H.S. Joseph to another doctor. Joseph was campaigning to become representative, and he was meeting with other physicians to garner support. However the letter mentions that he is unable to meet with every doctor in the parish, so he asks for the recipient's support through the letter.

A letter from Dr. H.S. Joseph to the St Landry Parish notary to certify that Mr. A. Lejeune is no longer physically fit to take care of himself. There is a note on the bottom of the page from the notary public, Samuel H. Butler, approving the above statement.

A letter from Dr. H.S. Joseph to Mr. R.M. Hunter. Alongside this letter, Dr. Joseph sent Hunter correspondence from Mr. J.J. Healy and the Texas and Pacific Ry. about a gravel delivery.

A business letter from Dr. H.S. Joseph to Mr. J.J. Healy. In it, Joseph asks Healy to create a statement for the final estimate for work that happened in Road District 2. Joesph includes a rough outline of the statement he needs from Healy and requests that he send him the final draft as soon as possible.

A business letter between Dr. H.S. Joseph and Mr. J.J. Healy. In it, Joseph states that he is returning a file for a claim from the Texas and Pacific Ry. He requests for Healy to refer to the contract between the New Orleans Gravel Co. and St. Landry Parish, and to note that they do not have to pay for the freight thier order of gravel was delivered on.

A letter from Dr. Luster(?) J. Williams to Mr. Cliff Allen about payment for the jurymen that were on the inquest for the death of an A.B. Markle.

The first page of a letter from Dr. G.E. Butchee to a friend of his. On this page Butchee writes about some cotton seeds he's saving for the recipient. He also writes about how the water was high that year. Butchee then changes the subject to write about his new daughter and the health of his young son.

The second page of a letter from Dr. G.E. Butchee to a friend of his. On this page, Butchee continues writing about how his son's health has been improving. Butchee then writes about how busy he has been since returning home, and he notes that he soon expects a "sprinkle of fever" in his area. He then wishes the recipient well and ends the letter.

A letter from Sam Blum to John J. Healey about donations for the Charity Hospital's one hundredth anniversary. He previously contacted Healey's Parish, but he has yet to get a reply from them. The donations collected will go towards repairs and extensions to the hospital.

The first page of a letter from Dr. A. Dupaquier to Mr. Perrodin written in French. (Will need further review for accurate translation.) It is about the condition of Madame Perrodin since she has an illness. Acting in M. Certrou's(?) place, Dupaquier reccomends a medicine that Mme. Perrodin must take 12 drops of a day.

The second page of a letter from Dr. A. Dupaquier to Mr. Perrodin written in French. (Will need further review for accurate translation.) On this page, Dupaquier notes that Mme. Perrodin's illness is potenitally difficult to heal due to her age.

The letter is part of the hospital's yearly appeals for donations from the parishes. The first page contains brief history of the hospital and its mission to help all people from all denominations, nationalities, and races.

A letter from A.M. Blodgett of the Blodgett Construction Company to the Secretary of the St. Landry Parish Police Jury. The letter is about new adjustments to the contracts the company and the police jury were negotiating at the behest of the Louisiana Highway Commission.
