Moresi - Reaux Collection Scans (Folder V)

D-MO1-V-001
A bill issued to F.R. Caffery in account with the Moresi Foundry and Machine Shop. It is most likely the note mentioned at the bottom of D-MO1-U-25. The amount Caffery paid was $590.48.

D-MO1-V-002
A letter from F. R. Caffery which was sent to Mr. A. Moresi, concerning the payment he owes for the items he comissioned from the foundry. Caffery wrote this letter to tell Moresi the timeframe of when he will have the payment ready.

D-MO1-V-003
A business letter sent to Mr. Leo P. Anderton from F.R. Caffery. Caffery is asking Anderton if he knows of anyone who could make for him the parts he needs for a crusher.

D-MO1-V-004
The first page of another business letter between F.R. Caffery and Mr. A. Moresi. On this page, Caffery discloses that the letter was sent with a signed note for $150.00 with a slight edit to the date to provide himself with some more time to meet the payment. Caffery then requests for a man from Moresi's foundry to come over and cut a key that was sent in a spur wheel hub. Additionally, he requests for the items he ordered to be completed by Saturday, October 12th, 1901.

D-MO1-V-005
The back of V-004, which includes an additional note from Caffery to Moresi. It is an additonal inquiry about the creation of a small centrifuge pump, asking Moresi if his foundry is capable of fulfilling the request or if Moresi knew anyone who could do it instead.

D-MO1-V-006
A short letter sent from F. R. Caffery sent to Mr. A. Moresi. The paper the letter was written on has deteriorated a bit, so some parts of it are unable to be deciphered. From what is legible, Caffery wrote Moresi to inform him that he wishes to try a different arrangement for his equipment than what Moresi previously suggested.

D-MO1-V-007
Another comission for Moresi's foundry from F.R. Caffery. Caffery requested for the construction of two trolleys, with rollers or balls(?) instead of plain bearings.

D-MO1-V-008
A page from a letter between an unknown sender and recipient. This page outlines the dimensions and specifications for a collar bearing.

D-MO1-V-009
Another letter from F.R. Caffery to A. Moresi requesting for an estimate on the pricing and timeframe for the creation of several parts with certain dimensions.

D-MO1-V-010
The second half of V-009. At the end of this letter, Caffery states he would like this commission finished by the 15th of September.

D-MO1-V-011
The first page of a business letter between F.R. Caffery and Moresi, and in it, Caffery responds to a previous communication with Moresi (possibly linked V-009 and V-010). In this letter he confirms the exact dimensions he wishes for the machine parts he ordered, stating the letter included a sketch of the parts in question.

D-MO1-V-012
The second page of a business letter between Caffery and Moresi that continues from V-011. On this page, Caffery recalls a pinion he previously ordered from Moresi, including its dimensions and number of teeth. He requests for the pinion to be completed early since he wants to do a trial run of his mill on October 10th, and he promises that the payment will be ready by November 1st.

D-MO1-V-013
The first page of a letter for Dr. W.E. Hawkins from J.D. Hesseltine. In this letter, Hesseltine explains he is on a land deal with L.O.E. Bennet, and the land in question are lots jointly owned by both Bennet and Hawkins. Hesseltine wishes to give Hawkins part of his interest from different lots he owns in exchange for full ownership of Hawkins and Bennet's lot. The latter half of the page details the lots and interest Hesseltine wishes to offer Hawkins and the advantages of accepting his offer.

D-MO1-V-014
The second page of V-013. It continues Hesseltine's letter to Dr. W.E. Hawkins, offereing Hawkins a deal for part of Hesseltine's interest in exchange for some of Hawkins's land. This page continues Hesseltine's questions about the quality, climate and crops that Hawkins's land could sustain to determine an appropriate price.

D-MO1-V-015
A note written on the back of V-014. Presumably, Dr. W.E. Hawkins wrote this note in response to V-013 and V-014, but the handwriting is difficult to read. From what could be discerned, Hawkins was not interested in Hesseltine's offer, but he was open to renegotiate a new agreement between the two.

D-MO1-V-016
A letter for Dr. W.E. Hawkins. The letter is difficult to read in some areas, and the sender's name cannot be deciphered at this time. From what could be read, the sender is requesting Hawkins to give him more time to make up the funds to settle his and a unnamed woman's accounts. The sender needs more time because he lost most of his savings due to an incident.

D-MO1-V-017
A letter to Dr. Will Hawkins from Sam Huckaby, concerning some land Hawkins wishes to purchase. Huckaby requests Hawkins to tell him what he's willing to offer for the plot since he believes the land is worth a decent amount. Huckaby ends the letter stating his initial intent to meet in person, but the roads were too bad to make the journey.

D-MO1-V-018
A bill issued by Ethan Whitington Jr. to J.B. Simpletary(?) for an order of cotton. The total amount owed was $5.10, and Simpletary(?) paid the bill May 11th, 1895.

D-MO1-V-019
A letter addressed to Dr. W.E. Hawkins from D.W. Broom of the Henry Bosch Company, which specialized in painting, paper-hanging, and decorating. The letter originally included an order application with a selection of options for him to choose from. The letter does not specify what he ordered between wallpaper, paint, or furniture.

D-MO1-V-020
A letter from W. Chappelle sent to Dr. T.E. Hawkins, concerning the health of his child. In the letter, Chapelle explains his daughter has been experiencing problems with her bowels and a light fever for the past two days, and he requests for Hawkins to send medicine to help control bowels.

D-MO1-V-021
A letter for Dr. W.E. Hawkins from Pier Vidine(?). Vidine wished to sell 80 acres of land and timber. Hawkins expressed interest in purchasing the land in the past, so Vidine wanted to see how much Hawkins was willing to offer for it. Vidine also placed pressure on the deal, mentioning that he had another interested buyer named John Evans.

D-MO1-V-022
The envelope for V-021, addressed to Dr. W.E. Hawkins in Bayou Chicot, Louisiana.

D-MO1-V-023
A letter from C.L. Chapelle sent to Dr. W.E. Hawkins. The writing is difficult to read, but from what is legible, the letter appears to be a reminder(?) from Chapelle to Hawkins to cancel something and send it to him.

D-MO1-V-024
A bill sent to Dr. W.E. Hawkins from the Chapelle Saw Mill for an order of 2x7(?) that totaled to about 500ft(?). The payment owed was $3.25.

D-MO1-V-025
A letter from J.E. Johnson to Dr. Willie Hawkins, who was, presumably Dr. W.E. Hawkins. This letter concerned Johnson's yearly payment to rent one of Hawkins's houses, and he requested to renew his agreement with Hawkins for another year.

Moresi - Reaux Collection Scans (Folder A)

D-MO1-A-001
A hand-written letter from Widow P (?) Gautreaux, sharing some personal news in her life with someone else. The handwriting is a bit difficult to read.

D-MO1-A-002
A petition from a couple of concerned citizens of Grand Coteau, LA, to the Police Jury of St. Landry Parish, requesting the construction of a public road.

D-MO1-A-003
An invoice from a general store called Phillips and Erwin, detailing orders made from January to June by a farm (I can't make out the name at the moment).

D-MO1-A-004
A hand-written letter from A.A. Bonvillain of Home Place and Coteau Plantations within St. Mary Parish. The writing is faded and occasionally difficult to read. In the letter, Bonvillain places an order for a sample of a part, requests for a pump cylinder to be tuned, and for a panel(?) to be cut.

D-MO1-A-005
A letter from A.A. Bonvillain, written to Mr. Moresi. The handwriting is faded and the right-hand side has deteriorated a bit. This letter seems to be the response of a previous inquiry about the use, dimensions, and holes drilled in some metal plates Bonvillain is interested in purchasing.

D-MO1-A-006
A politely written letter from Mr. Dunbar(?) requesting Miss Perrodin(?) to send him a roll of leather(?). (Potentially connected with A-006 and A-007).

D-MO1-A-007
A correspondence from Monsieur Pollingue(?) to Jules Perrodin written in French. Needs further review for translation.

D-MO1-A-008
A legal (?) agreement. The writer promises that they will pay sixty-six dollars, plus interest to purchase(?) an estate on behalf of Jules Perrodin. The handwriting is difficult to make out. Moreover, the sleeve contains a copy of the document.

D-MO1-A-009
A letter from Richard J. Breaux to Al's Print Shop, placing an order for Breaux's Hatchery and providing directions for delivery (Presumably connected with A-009, A-010, A-011, A-012, and A-013).

D-MO1-A-010
Envelope for A-009.

D-MO1-A-011
A printed slip for customers of Breaux's Hatchery to place their orders. Appears to be connected to A-009; potentially the slips that were ordered in that letter to Al's Print Shop.

D-MO1-A-012
A potentially older iteration of A-010. Could also be the duplicate of the printing mentioned in A-009.

D-MO1-A-013
A potentially older iteration of A-010. Could also be the duplicate of the printing mentioned in A-009.

D-MO1-A-014
An entry ticket for a benefit supper and raffle held at the Doric Lodge in Glenco, Louisiana. It details the time of the event, the dress code, and donations.

D-MO1-A-015
An entry ticket for a benefit supper and raffle held at the Doric Lodge in Glenco, Louisiana. It details the time of the event, the dress code, and donations.

D-MO1-A-016
A hand-written letter in French. It does not have a clear recipient, beginning with "Cher Monsieur" rather than a name. The sender appears to be a Francis Faraz (?), but the script is difficult to make out.

D-MO1-A-017
Another hand-written letter from A.A. Bonvillain to Mr. Moresi. The handwriting is difficult to read at some points. The letter is an order from Bonvillain to the Moresi foundry for a scraper, and it contains specifications for the dimensions and materials for the scraper.

D-MO1-A-018
A letter to Mr. Moresi talking about a commission to create the parts for a device to draw water from a well. The sender's name is difficult to make out due to the handwriting, and there is a note written at the top of the paper from a different author.

D-MO1-A-019
A letter that instructs the receiver to deliver the warrants of a Marguerite Cendre(?) or Collumo and M. Alexander Vainwright (?) to a man named Oscar Miles (?) for him to sign. The script for the names of the sender and recipient are too ornate for me to figure out.

D-MO1-A-020
A hand-written legal document to St. Landry Parish officials, certifying that one Alcibiades Guidry is unable to take care of himself and requesting that he be placed on a list. The handwriting is difficult to read, obscuring the senders' names and the descriptor of the list.

D-MO1-A-021
The second part of a note from J.W. May to an unknown recipient about the paperwork for selling their land.

D-MO1-A-022
An invoice from the office of J. D'Echaux for an order of materials. It's difficult to tell what exactly the order is for, but the company that D'Echaux seems to be part of is a sawmill dealing in cypress lumber and shingles.

D-MO1-A-023
A check made out to the Police Jury of Opelousas, Louisiana from J. Goetz (?).

D-MO1-A-024
Another hand-written letter from A.A. Bonvillain to the Moresi foundry. In the letter, Bonvillain is requesting the delivery of metal parts and tools that he commissioned for a project his company is working on.

D-MO1-A-025
A letter from the Gibson Cypress Lumber Co. to the Moresi Foundry, placing an order for engine parts with a few specifications. The letter was originally sent with a sketch of the requested parts.

Moresi - Reaux Collection Scans (Folder F)

D-MO1-F-001
A list of goods ordered from Alcee Devillier from an unknown sender. The list consists of items used for machine maintenance including gasoline and coal oil.

D-MO1-F-002
The second half of a letter from P. E. Moore to a friend of his. The writing is difficult to read in some places. Moore writes about what he has been up to, detailing his visit to a "a most lovely place." Moreover, he writes that he will come to visit his friend soon.

D-MO1-F-003
A payment of $35.50 from Mr. John Chirs(?) to Dr. J.E. Shute. There is also an additional note written in French at the bottom of the paper, detailing a payment of $15.00 from Mr. Perrodin to Dr. Shute.

D-MO1-F-004
The first fragment of a letter to the Police Jury of St. Landry Parish torn into three pieces, connected to F-005 and F-006. The letter is from Dr. Hawkins, Mr. Wharton(?), and another signature that is too difficult to read to the Police Jury of St. Landry Parish.

D-MO1-F-005
The second fragment of a letter to the Police Jury of St. Landry Parish torn into three pieces, connected to F-004 and F-006. The three senders are requesting for "Annie(?)" Phillis Ferguson to be placed on the indigent list since she is too old to work.

D-MO1-F-006
The third fragment of a letter to the Police Jury of St. Landry Parish torn into three pieces, connected to F-004 and F-005.

D-MO1-F-007
A check written to Dr. W.E. Hawkins for $2.50. The sender's name is too ornately written to read, but it can be concluded that they were a previous patient of Hawkins, paying for their treatment.

D-MO1-F-008
A letter to Dr. J.E. Hawkins from B.B. Hawkins, who is, presumably, Dr. Hawkins' relative. In the letter, B.B. Hawkins writes that a man named Jessie came around, interested in a mule that they are caring for, but B.B. Hawkins is not willing to sell the mule to him because Jessie is, "very cruel to stock."

D-MO1-F-009
Envelope for F-008.

D-MO1-F-010
A letter to the Lecompte Bank from W.E. Hawkins. The writing is difficult to read in some spots. In it, Hawkins requests for the reciever to find a specific rent-note for A.S. Bass with another name on the back. He wants the bank to collect the due principle imminently.

D-MO1-F-011
Envelope for F-010

D-MO1-F-012
Another letter from W.E. Hawkins to the Lecompte Bank about the A.S. Bass mentioned in F-010. Apparently, Mr. Bass has been a problematic tenant, avoiding his rent payments for several months, and now, Mr. Hawkins is determined to collect.

D-MO1-F-013
The second page of F-012.

D-MO1-F-014
Another letter from W.E. Hawkins to the Lecompte bank, presumably about the situation described in F-010 and F-012. The letter contains the name of Bass's employer and his location so that the bank has more information about how to track Bass down to force him to pay his debts.

D-MO1-F-015
An envelope addressed to Dr. W.E. Hawkins from the Yellowstone Park Association.

D-MO1-F-016
An envelope from the Burnham Soluable Iodine Company. The addressee is cut off.

D-MO1-F-017
A business card from W.T. Longnecker, a practical Optician. There is a note written on the back detailing instructions about where to place a cast for shipping. The notes does not appear to be from Longnecker; the person who received this card (Moresi?) must have written this note on whatever was nearby.

D-MO1-F-018
A letter from L. Perrin Jr. to Dr. Hawkins, requesting for medicine Hawkins gave him previously. Perrin asks Hawkins if it would be possible for him to send the medicine by mail since he is too busy to take time out of his schedule to collect them himself.

D-MO1-F-019
An envelope addressed to Dr. W.E. Hawkins. There is no sender listed on the envelope.

D-MO1-F-020
A letter to Dr. W.E. Hawkins from Monsieur(?) Harris. Harris writes about his Nannie, who previously had some issues with one of her eyes, but she is steadily recovering. Harris requests for Hawkins' presence when they travel to New Orleans to get Nannie a new pair of glasses.

D-MO1-F-021
A note from Dr. Francez, instructing the recipient to cash a payment of five dollars from an Adam Domingue.

D-MO1-F-022
A check from the Parish of St. Landry to Dr. Fredrick Vidrine for $34.25. The payment was for "furnishing(?) a vaccine."

D-MO1-F-023
A letter from Dr. Fred Vidrine and Ozeme Fontenot to certify that Adam Rideau cannot work due to chronic suppurative arthritis in his knee.

D-MO1-F-024
A letter to the St. Landry Parish Police Jury from Dr. Moncla, Louis Veillon Sr., A. Aucoin, and Sustie(?) Aucoin. The senders request help for an old blind couple, Mr. Mac Guillory and Mrs. Octatrice, who need assistance with guiding themselves.

D-MO1-F-025
A check of $2.10 from the estate of Erneste Guillory to a doctor to pay for medicine.

D-MO1-G-002
The latter half of a letter from Dr. R.E. Oden to a close acquaintance. In it he talks about what he has been up to, including talking with a "blushing young widow" quite often. He ends the letter with well wishes, and hopes the the recipient will visit for Christmas.

D-MO1-G-005
Another letter from Dr. Childs to Mr. Skiles. Childs is writing Skiles to order for 400 ft of pine wood that's 1x10 or 1x12 and 12ft long on one side. He also inquires about the status of his wagon, and requests for Skiles to call him on the phone as soon as it arrives.

D-MO1-G-006
A letter to the Moresi Foundry from W.A.(?) Haas, requesting for the foundry to take a look at a centrifugal he ordered because the spindle does not fit properly in the box it needs to be in. Moreover there also seems to be an issue with the machine's buttons.

D-MO1-G-007
The second page of G-006.

D-MO1-G-008
A letter from Dr. J.S. Branch to Dr. W.E. Hawkins. It is a reply to a previous letter about a business deal. However, he stresses that this is a limited time offer as there are other parties interested in his shares.

D-MO1-G-009
