Acadie / Acadiana Student Exchange

TRANSNATIONAL STUDENT EXCHANGE PROJECT BETWEEN THE CENTER FOR LOUISIANA STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA AT LAFAYETTE AND THE INSTITUTE OF ACADIAN STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MONCTON

Program

This intercultural exchange is organized by the Center for Louisiana Studies of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the Institute of Acadian Studies of the Université de Moncton in the spring/summer 2024 session.

Thanks to the generosity of a Louisiana donor family, this program aims to cultivate and promote the cultural and historical ties between French-speaking Louisiana and Acadia. It also aims to offer students from UL Lafayette and the Université de Moncton a unique and enriching research and creative experience.

The program aims to pair two people from these two institutions for social/scholarly/linguistic support. The selected individuals will develop (in consultation with university staff) an individual project that intersects archival research and creation to historicize and cross-reference the different influences and traditions of Acadia and Louisiana. These individuals will benefit from a workspace provided by the Institute of Acadian Studies in Moncton and at the Center for Louisiana Studies in Lafayette.

To be considered, applicants must have intermediate to high command of both written and spoken French.

At the end of the two-month period, each student will produce either:

1) A public presentation of their research in Lafayette or Moncton, respectively

2) A digital humanities project linked to the website of the Institute of Acadian Studies or the Center for Louisiana Studies, or both

Financial resources

Students will spend a minimum of two weeks and up to one month in the exchange location. Private funds will cover airfare as well as a stipend of $800 US for each participant, to be used for incidental living expenses during the two-month period. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the Université de Moncton will provide accommodations and a weekday meal plan for the traveler.
