No Gains Without Pains Collection

From the collection of American author, folklorist, and educator Dr. Patricia Rickels, who taught for 50 years at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The collection contains audio recordings, documents, and images related to a collaborative project to document the Civil Rights movement in Louisiana. The resulting product, entitled "No Gains Without Pains": An Oral History of the Civil Rights Movement in Louisiana, was a traveling slide show presentation that was advanced in sync with a typed out script and an audio track edited from the original interviews.

The resulting video, constructed by Center for Louisiana Studies staff, was compiled from the collection materials, and attempts to replicate the original presentation as faithfully as possible.
