Programs

The Programs and Special Projects Division serves as the Center for Louisiana Studies' outreach arm, facilitating research among its Center fellows, hosting community programming, and collaborating on public and research projects.

A Programming Partner

Working with state, regional, and local groups, in addition to private businesses, the Programming division advises and participates in projects designed to stimulate Louisiana's economy through preservation and promotion of Louisiana's cultures and peoples.  These activities are supported by grants, donations, and the Center's fundraising efforts.

A Community Collaborator

The Programming and Special Projects division maintains partnerships with the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area, Bayou Vermilion District/Vermilionville, Louisiana Travel and Promotion Association, and the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. Its collaborative projects with local and parish governments include the Save the Southern Club initiative in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish; the Bayou Teche Paddle Trail, encompassing St. Landry, St. Martin, Iberia, and St. Mary parishes; and the Louisiana Creative Communities Initiative in Minden, Webster Parish.

A Cultural Resource

The Center encourages researchers to visit and work with Center staff on their projects, and it assists in the development of new resources, from tourism initiatives to preservation efforts, interdisciplinary fieldwork, multimedia presentations, creative placemaking strategies, and heritage consultation.
